Year 12 GNVQ (Intermediate and Foundation)

All students work on six units over the year. Four will be assessed through assignments: two will be assessed by external tests in January.

Students also work towards an ICT certificate, which is a separate qualification to the GNVQ.

A work placement is arranged to give all students a valuable insight into real working environments as well as offering a potential source of information for assignment work. Placement takes place every Thursday until Easter.
 

AVC Business

Applied Business
Applied A levels are designed to provide a broad education as a basis for further training, Higher Education, or for moving into employment.

An Applied A level in Business is intended to provide an introduction to the world of business, enabling students to investigate a range of areas of study. This is done through traditional and vocational learning. Studentsl conduct investigations by studying relevent organisations.

Business has the same status and points as AS and A2 level courses and can be studied as a complement to other subjects.


Assessement

  • Applied A levels are assessed through coursework (66%) and examination (33%)
  • Each unit has four assessment areas (A-D)
  • Applied A levels are graded A-E

AS level Single Award
3 units      1 year      equivalent to one AS level

A2 level Single Award
6 units      2 years     equivalent to one A2 level
A2 level Double Award
12 units      2years     equivalent to two A2 levels

Entry requirements

No prior knowledge of business is necessary but a good level of achievement is expected in GCSE subjects at grade C or above
