Salt is proud to have achieved Specialist Schools Status for Mathematics and ICT.

 

Since September 2004 the status has given us the opportunity to channel greater resources into raising standards. Being a specialist school impacts upon more than just the mathematics and ICT faculties, it enables us to integrate ICT and enhance numeracy across the whole curriculum.

Our developing alliances are reaping many rewards for the school and its community partners, with work being described as innovative, exciting, engaging and stimulating. To name but a few; we have created mathematics-related enterprise activities, recruited science and engineering ambassadors, built partnerships with public and private services/organisations and disseminated good practice.

 

Financially the school has benefited from an injection of £150,000 and receives an annual fund of £160,000 over four years. Benefits have included:

 

  • A new range of courses guaranteeing all students achieve a qualification in ICT
  • PCs in each classroom for access to a more integrated school network
  • Interactive Whiteboards and data projectors in each dedicated ICT suite, specialist mathematics rooms and each curriculum area
  • Investment in a school-wide complete Online Learning Platform
  • Resource domains for subject specialist staff
  • Whole school wireless networking
  • A mobile classroom of 30 laptops with full internet access
  • Development of a “Print and Copy” facility
  • Five laptops for outreach and in-school support
  • Mathematics Activity Days for whole school participation
  • The Atrium Art Gallery in partnership with Provident Financial plc.
